Chrome Split view + Checkvist = ❤️

Hello friends!

Have you tried Chrome Split mode yet? It turns out, working in two tabs at the same time is rather convenient, especially for research and note-taking.

Keep Checkvist open in one browser tab, browse in the other. Collect quotes, fragments, links, images — and organise them as you go.

On a Google Meet, split the window and take notes in Checkvist. Share them with your team afterwards.

Power users prefer keyboard, here’s a couple of shortcuts for the Split view (on MacOS):

  1. Use Option-Command-n to split the active tab (Alt+Shift+n on Windows)
  2. Option-Command-arrow left/right to switch between tabs in the split view

Here’s a one-min demo:

A few fixes we did to make it work

  • Copy-paste with html formatting preserved
  • Image/text drag-n-drop between panes
  • Copy-paste now works in both ‘edit’ and ‘view’ modes - the formatting is retained.

Anything we forgot about? A nasty bug overlooked? Do let us know - and let’s make it better together.

this beats Ctrl-tab everytime. :star_struck:

There’s also the sidebar on MS Edge, and the extension for the Firefox sidebar.

I used to keep Checkvist loaded on these while on Windows, but now I prefer MacOS with Safari and haven’t found a similar workflow.

For split screen fans, the ultimate is Vivaldi which can split vertically too.
